Stories and highlights
There’s always a reason to celebrate at our school! From special events and proud achievements to everyday successes, here are some of our standout moments.
A year at our school
Swim School
Our school participates in a two-week swim school program led by accredited swim teachers who ensure safety, skill development and confidence in the water. Students learn essential swimming techniques, water safety and resilience through structured, supportive lessons. This program is a valuable part of our commitment to promoting health, wellbeing and lifelong water safety skills.
Leadership
Our school leaders proudly represent our school at local Remembrance Day ceremonies each year. They lay wreaths, participate in services and show respect on behalf of our entire school community. This important role helps them develop leadership, empathy and an understanding of the significance of honouring those who have served.
Patch to Plate
Our students actively participate in our school garden, learning to grow fresh fruits and vegetables while developing practical gardening skills. They also use their harvest in cooking activities, discovering how to prepare healthy meals and exploring the connection between food, nutrition and sustainability. This hands-on program encourages responsibility, teamwork and a love of healthy eating.
Sport
Our students have the opportunity to represent our school in regional sporting events, showcasing their skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. Participating in these competitions helps build confidence, resilience and a sense of pride in both personal achievement and representing our school community.
High Potential and Gifted Education
Our students engage in a wide range of HPGE (High Potential and Gifted Education) activities, where they can explore their talents and interests. They have opportunities to create and run their own businesses, learn musical instruments, participate in performances, and take part in visual arts projects. These programs encourage creativity, leadership, collaboration, and help students develop their unique abilities in a supportive and challenging environment.
Showcase
Showcase is our annual celebration of creativity and community, bringing together local primary and high schools for two unforgettable evenings of drama, music, and dance. Students share their talents on stage in a vibrant display of teamwork, imagination, and performing arts excellence. This much-loved event not only highlights the remarkable skills of our young performers but also strengthens connections across our wider school community.
Science Expo
Our Primary Science Experience Day gives students the exciting opportunity to visit Irrawang High School for a full day of hands-on discovery. Working in real science labs alongside Irrawang’s specialist teachers and supportive high school mentors, primary students take part in engaging experiments and interactive activities that spark curiosity and build confidence. This enriching experience not only brings science to life but also helps students feel connected and prepared for their future learning journey.
Star Leader Program
Our STAR Leaders program gives Year 6 students the chance to take on extra responsibility and make a positive impact in our school community. During lunch and recess, STAR Leaders help set up, run, and pack away playground games, ensuring all students have fun, inclusive activities to enjoy. This leadership role helps them build confidence, teamwork, and communication skills while fostering a caring and supportive environment for younger students.
NAIDOC Celebrations
At Irrawang Public School, NAIDOC Week is a special time for our students and staff to celebrate and acknowledge the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through a range of engaging activities, including art projects, storytelling, and cultural performances, our school community comes together to deepen understanding, promote respect, and support reconciliation. NAIDOC at Irrawang PS helps foster a strong sense of connection and appreciation for the diversity and contributions of First Nations peoples, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.
“Irrawang Public School is an exceptional school. All staff, from the office to the Principal, are second to none. My granddaughters enjoy coming to school every day. A truly wonderful school.” — Tracey Singleton, a grandparent of Irrawang Public School
